Tris (Hydroxymethyl) Aminomethane is white colored organic crystalline compound that has chemical formula C4H11NO3 with molar mass of 121.136 g/mol. It serves as an emulsifying agent for cosmetics, waxes, & oils and has ability to absorb acidic gases. This chemical is water soluble in nature and has boiling point of about 219 degrees Celsius. It is considered to be one of the most commonly used buffers in biology & biochemistry laboratories for having low cost & good effectiveness. Tris (Hydroxymethyl) Aminomethane is best alternative to sodium bicarbonate used in treatment of metabolic acidosis.

APPLICATION

Used as an emulsifying agent for oils, fats, waxes, cosmetic cream, lotions. Used as an absorbent for acidic gases, as a buffer. In medicine as an alkalinising agent in treatment of metabolic acidosis.
